Channel Umptee-Three is a now-defunct animated television series directed towards children that featured a lot of high-quality video, including some stock footage provided by New & Unique Videos, San Diego’s first stock footage library. This excerpt includes several images from New & Unique Videos. Keep an eye open for the snake charmer in New Delhi, India; and Polynesian dancers in Papeete, Tahiti.
Our stock-footage library, New & Unique Videos, has some pretty interesting footage in the vaults. Jay Leno has used several clips from “California Big Hunks,” a male erotic striptease video (no nudity) which we produced in 1985, and which we believe inspired the Chippendales franchise (1987 video production date). Many of the videos we produced in the 1980′s were the first of their kind and we were pioneers in the home-video industry. That and $4 will get you a cup of coffee, right?
Anyway, this is a compilation of clips that Jay Leno featured on The Tonight Show. Watch for Jay’s head atop a ripped and studly body. Laugh and enjoy.
Happy St. Patty’s Day! This is an appropriate time to speak of all things Irish (green beer actually is not). So we wanted to share the story of how we followed the Young Dubliners to Ireland.
Here, camera operator, Mark Schulze, uses the Canon HV20, his “stealth travel camera,” the world’s most powerful small camera, to capture HD digital images of The Young Dubliners as well as the Irish countryside. Photo by Patty Mooney.

New & Unique Videos was San Diego’s first stock-footage library, established in 1994. We’ve been around the world collecting clips of everything from an angry Tasmanian devil in Australia to a snake charmer in New Delhi, India. We also have archival footage including odd shots like a guy setting a record by walking on his hands, a plane crashing into the Empire State Building (by mistake) and turkeys dressed up in clothing.
Video producers understand the value of stock footage. One remarkable clip could make or break a video production. Establishing shots of exotic cities or buildings give the viewer the impression that the rest of the show has been shot at that location when in reality, it may be produced on a lot in Burbank, Studio City or Vancouver, Canada.
The stock-footage industry has changed radically within the last 15 years. For instance, when a client called asking for certain stock-footage clips, let’s say, the San Diego city skyline, then we would edit clips from a time-coded VHS tape (a dub of the Betacam SP master) onto another VHS tape which we would then Fed Ex to the client. They would then look at the tape and select any shots they wanted. Then, after filling out a contract, a Betacam SP dub from the master would be sent to the client. About a week was the fastest anyone could expect to receive stock-footage media suitable for their show after the initial request.
These days, footage is now available digitally online for immediate download. Plus there are an infinite number of agencies that can provide contemporary digital high definition footage of cities and landmarks.
But not everyone can boast having footage of underwater mountain bikers, a tarantula hawk dragging the carcass of a tarantula, or a headrest driving a car. Why do you think we call it New & Unique Videos?
